Rose Red's House: Dining Room

I don't think I'd have the courage to paint my dining room red and buy furniture in black. But that's what my "Rose Red" friend choose to do. And it works! This little room ends up being cozy and royally rich because of the color scheme. King Arthur had a round table, but my friend and her husband have a massive square one that is just as romantic, with leather-back chairs surrounding it as mini-thrones. Red velvet drapes garb the shaded windows, and a Tiffany lamp hangs over the table. My friend painted the black-and-white watercolor of her younger sister (who was one of my inspirations for "Blanche," by the way). And a favorite fluted glass lily vase stands in the center of the table.

How beautiful! I would never have thought of doing something like that! And it turned out so beautiful!

Gorgeous! But I have to wonder... Is this a "special-occasions-only" dining room, or one like ours, where everything from school to sewing to eating to board games go on (sometimes at the same time)? I could not keep a multi-purpose dining room looking this beautiful. My husband has worked in real estate too many years to allow red walls. :o(

I think that they and their two toddlers eat dinner there every night. But I've only been there for dinner, so I can't tell how else the room is used.

But if your husband is in real estate, then he has to know that everyone, from Martha Stewart on down, is painting their walls red these days! ;) I would imagine that it's a HUGE selling point!

Actually, any "in" color seems to make people say, "That's going to be out in a year... I don't want to paint over it." He's heard it a hundred times. Friends of ours did the "sage green thing" when it was really big a couple of years ago when they decided to move because everyone told them it would be a great selling feature. After every showing the showing agent would say a dozen nice things about their house and then end with, "But no one wants to paint over all that green." They ended up putting off white over the green and the house sold in two weeks. So you never know... We've never left a house alone---we want it to look like it's "ours," not the previous owners'. One of the houses I lived in as a girl had a red ceiling in the kitchen! The house was actually about to be condemned but my folks fixed it up really nice over the years... but they never did touch that ceiling. Too much work. Not a day went by that my mom didn't complain about "that red kitchen." A couple years ago they bought an almost-new house that had white everywhere. I think it is really a cold, sterile looking house, but she loves it. To each his own! :o)
What a fun series of posts! We just enjoyed "Snow White and Rose Red" during our "B" week adventure (B for bear). My girls hugged each other when we got to the part about Snow White and Rose Red holding hands whenever they went out!

I would like to tag you for a "Five Favorite Posts" meme. I just posted mine at Pinewood Castle. Hope you are having a lovely weekend before Lent begins!
